besides the Hanford Nuclear Reservation,
is home of the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project below the Grand Coulee Dam. The mighty Columbia River and the
awesome canyons and flood deposits from the humongous Ice Age Floods surround
and dominate the landscape.
In the work of environmental assessment, and all projects, we are sensitive to the flow
of the economy and the forces of nature, and we respect both in the process.
The subtle forces of nature do a lot for us every day, in the garden,
in the farm field and even in the depths of the lowly septic system. These forces
traditionally provide us with most of what we need to build our communities. The
role of these forces in our economy is not commonly discussed. A diesel powered farm
tractor is an example of how the natural forces of plant biology are re-directed for our
use in the production and harvesting of crops. If our government ever
decides to secure our national energy supply, and when carbon based sources are
depleted or banned, we are bound to turn first to
nuclear power and then by default to the subtle forces to sustain our
economy.
We should have learned by now that over aggressive approaches
to environmental management (clear-cutting and strip-mining) and timid approaches (still
no energy policy for the USA that is based on anything other than fossil fuel ) are running into problems that anyone in the world can see.
When the true cost of our official blind eye approach to energy (environmental)
planning comes due, we may not be able to afford to both feed ourselves and
prepare for change, let alone clean anything up. The official decision to feed corn to cars in at best a break-even energy
deal and has never been corrected. This kind of official shenanigans tells
us and a hungry world that our official answers to complex but obvious questions
may not stand up to a category 5 situation. It seems clear that depending on our elected leaders
for planning is problematic.
In spite of every attempted petty theft of our unalienable
rights by our so called leaders, individuals still run and rule this country in
the end. We must make up our own minds based on true facts from trusted sources.
This is the role ECO-NOMIC plays in the managing of environmental risks. In
spite of having some great corporate clients, most of our customers are
individuals and family businesses, sometimes facing once-in-a-lifetime events
like a cleanup or a sensitive construction project. Our role is to guide you
through and to go to bat if required.
